Supplies

  • boxes, cones, or shoes

  • pencils, balls, rolled up socks, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Create a “bear’s den” by marking off an area with boxes, cones, or shoes. The area inside the markers is the bear’s den.

  2. Select one child to be the bear.  It is the bear’s job to guard the den.

  3. Place objects representing sticks and berries inside the bear’s den (can use pencils, balls, rolled up socks, etc.)

  4. The rest of the players stand outside the bear’s den and attempt to enter and take the objects without letting the bear tag them. If they get tagged, they must move outside the den and perform a bear’s task to rejoin the game. The adult facilitator assigns/monitors the bear tasks.

Bear tasks: Players may choose between doing 6 jumping jacks, 6 toe touches or 6 hops. Once they have completed their bear task, they may rejoin the game.

The game ends when all of the sticks and berries have been taken out of the bear’s den.
